Ever wonder about Egypt back in the day?

Just a few things I have been pondering...

In Ancient Egypt, as you know, a great deal of mysterious activity went down. The Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, etc. We have wondered for years on the origins of these enormous monuments and their purpose.

Its been common knowledge that the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx were created at the same time 4500 years ago by the Cheops. but recent discoveries have been made on the Sphinx that have greatly changed our previous estimates of age.

Water erosion was found on the Sphinx... now that's a bit unusual for a monument that's in the center of a desert to have water erosion... Although the Egyptian government will refuse all this information to be correct (due to religious beliefs of the age of man), the fact is computers have calculated that it would have taken 1000 years of continuous torrential downpour to create the markings left in the sphinx. Due to this the age of the Spinx has been push back to somewhere around 10000 to 15000 years!!! It makes me wonder... There were highly civilized peeps 15000 years ago?
